Music Questionnaire Results Analysis
The first question I asked was to find out the age of the people doing my questionnaire. I put options which are in the range of my target audience, and the most popular age was 17-18, with 6/10.
Question number two was to find out the gender of the questionnaire’s audience. The results of this question were even; 50% of were male, 50% female. This suggests the results of the rest of the questions will be fair, as there will be no biasness.
Number three was designed to see what sort of artist is most popular with the audience, and the favourite out of the five options was Ed Sheeran, by far. This is apparent by the bar chart:
In question four, I asked the audience their favourite type of music video, where the most popular type was a narrative.
Question five was used to find out the audience’s favourite genre of music. The number 1 was Indie, followed by Rock. This is good for me, because the genre of music video I am making is from the Indie genre, and it proves how popular Indie music is becoming.
In question six, when asked whether they preferred Originality of Familiarity in a new music artist, the audience answered originality, with 90%.
Question seven found that the audience would prefer an original new video, to an eye-catching or familiar style.
When told about the music video I am to create, the audience decided that their preferred type of music video for MY video would be either a narrative, or abstract/unconventional.
The audience then said that their ideal setting for my own music video would be a wood/ forest, and then in a park or a city.
In the last question regarding the media in which the video will be shot, the most popular outcome was black and white, then colour and then sepia.
Conclusion
From my results, I can see that the most popular genre of music amongst young people nowadays is Indie, which bodes well for me as the genre of music which the video that I am making is Indie. The most popular artist from the list given was Ed Sheeran, an Indie artist, which confirms the fact that Indie is the preferred genre of music. Also, the unsigned artist which I am using is a male Indie/acoustic artist, who is similar in style to Ed Sheeran, which promotes the thought that the music video I am to make should be popular if done well. I have decided to do my music video in a narrative style, as it was both the most popular type of current music video, and idea for my own music video in the questionnaire. Also, it can be a very effective technique, and will go well with the lyrics and genre of the song I am to use, called ‘Lost at Sea’. The audience chose ‘Originality’ as the aspect they look for in a new music video, which means I shall have to try to make my video as creative and unique as possible, for it to be as effective as possible. The joint first choice for the video style idea was ‘Abstract/ unconventional’, (along with narrative) and therefore I will have to make my video stand out from all the others within the genre of Indie music currently in circulation. From the question regarding a setting for my music video, I have decided to film it in a wood or a forest. I have decided upon this not only because it was the most popular setting chosen by the questionnaire audience, but also because as the leaves are beginning to fall, the mise-en-scene will be striking and iconic. Finally, I have chosen to film my video in a mix of both black and white and colour, because these were the two most popular answers in the questionnaire. I think the colours of the autumnal leaves can be shown off best in colour, but black and white is also an effective media and is often used in Indie music videos.
